Thanks - But NO THANKS!

This morning, whilst browsing the 'Women's Issues' bit on 'About.com'  and enjoying a coffee after my morning body balance class - I came across the most interesting article. Very interesting in fact! Apparently the US FDA (US Food & Drug Administration) have said 'NO' to the female Viagra! A German pharmaceutical company sought to gain approval for this drug (Fibanserin) and hit a brick wall when they were refused, after an FDA Advisory panel determined that the drug "does not significantly increase women's sexual desire".  Incidentally this little pill (!) is a 'failed anti-depressant', and not only does it work differently to the male version (what doesn't?!) it also "alters a woman's brain chemistry, once again suggesting that our 'issues' are more mental than physical"  (Purleeease!?!)

"HALLE-F-LUJAH for the FDA" is what me says!

Would you not think that us women have got enough on our plate as it is, without having the added pressure of having to include 'Viagra' onto our Tesco's list along with the shower gel and toothpaste. I was gobsmacked to even read that such a pill had even been considered. Whilst I DO totally appreciate that some women would probably welcome a drug to help boost a waning libido (ME included, should it be proven to be 100% natural and safe)  I am also horrified by the effects it could have on the brain. Our brains regulate our hormones - for me this is already a longstanding argument between ME and MY brain (Argument = 'No, My-Brain, I'll regulate you AND the hormones and not the other way round'!) and I sure as hell wouldn't be wanting anything else in on the quarrel - even if it DID mean that I was guaranteed a fine damn time after swallowing one of the little pink pills. I think ALL women go through those phases at times - when feeling horny and amorous is totally banned in Hormoneville! I speak for myself here when I say this (I bet I also speak for the majority of you women out there too) - as much as I'd like to feel 'up for it' all of the time (think a smiley bouncy hot'n' horny Duracell rabbit!) - sometimes it just doesn't happen. And more importantly -  to feel such is normal.  Fact.

I am blissfully happy. I am also in love with my husband and wouldn't swap him for the world. I am a great, warm, witty, caring & 'hot' wife (Yes - says ME) I am also a busy mum, the main housekeeper of my house, and a part time employee, as well as the do-er of many other things. Oh and yeah - I think I may have forgotten to mention too - I am also a woman dealing with occasional visits from 'monthly friends', (baggage and all) and more often than not have to take up residence in Hormoneville, (and NOT by choice either!) where I am invaded by 'fiends' in both body and mind! (Is it any wonder that I don't always feel like that said bunny!?!)

As I said earlier, I do definitely think that us women have enough to deal with without also having to worry about whether or not we feel like rampant rabbits wanting to swing from chandeliers (Okay, a little exaggeration there maybe , but you do get my drift!)
Imagine - if every time we felt our libido waning a bit, we had to take ourselves aside for a little 'chat' and lecture ourselves into 'remembering to get the viagra' next time we go to the shops.  Nooo!...I don't think so.

So - to those greedy pharmaceutical companies who were trying to make yet another quick buck at the expense of us women - until you find a pill that functions as it should, without going anywhere near a woman's brain, and is also natural  and 1000% safe  - take the one you have and put THAT in your pipe and smoke it!
